So you want to know who Fredrik Lidén is!

I was born on a cold winter morning up in the north of Sweden in 1962. Downhill and crosscountry skiing have always been close to my heart (nowadays I combine the two in Telemark skiing). In 1982 I moved to Stockholm to study Engineering Physics and continued with a PhD in experimental Nuclear Structure Physics. In 1991 I moved to Manchester, England, to continue working in Physics research. There my interest in violins also woke up, after 10 years of not playing a single note. In 1993 I got an offer I could not refuse from Ericsson Telecom in Stockholm, Sweden, and I started working on optical fibre telecommunication, especially on dense WDM systems. In January 1999 I left Ericsson for a small startup company named Qeyton Systems AB - also in the dense WDM business, but focusing on smaller metro networks. Qeyton Systems was acquired by Cisco Systems in June 2000 and I continued working for them for another two years. In november 2002 Cisco closed down the swedish facility and I started developing electronics for fibre optic heat sensors in Team M2 New Ventures AB (in 2005 Fiberson AB bought the patents and is now selling the heat sensor system). I also work a little for Securitas Direct/Aroundio on burglar alarms for private use. During 10 years I have also been teaching fibre optics at STF. In 2005 I started studying pedagogy at Lärarhögskolan to get full qualifications as a high school teacher in maths, physics and technology. I am also interested in oncology and have started studying medical radiation physics at the Karolinska hospital.

On my spare time I make violins/violas and play the violin in the Mazer Quartet Society and Orkestern Filialen, where I am webmaster. My quartet has this homepage. My fiancee, Anne, also plays the violin (and viola) and works at Ericsson as manager in Trade Finance. One of my favourite hobbies is to make violins, and I am a member of the "Stockholms Fiolbyggarklubb". During summertime I like to go kayaking in Lake Mälaren. The wonderful archipelago of Stockholm also gets visited during the winter season, but then on skates. We have two children - Axel (´00) and Wilma (´02) - and a third child is on the way (summer ´06)!
